TEXAS HOLD'EM

This is the most widely played game in casinos across the United States. Texas Holdem is simpler compared to other poker games making it the most popular community card poker game. World Series of Poker (WSOP) and World Poker Tournament (WPT) are the biggest poker tournaments in the world featuring Texas Holdem.

The Deal

The game starts with the player to the left of the dealer. As the betting begins, the dealer distributes tiles facing down to all the players at the table. Starting from the sixth card, the dealer distributes a hand of five cards. As the game gets going, one card is burned again and one card is revealed to the players.

The Play

The players use combinations of best five cards (pocket and community cards). The player who has the upper hand wins the game. Sometimes, the game is over when there is a betting such that it leads other players to give up.

The player sitting to dealer's left hand side makes a preliminary move. The leader in this hand will deal for the next round and the cycle will go on.

Scoring

It all depends on what hand you have. There are few basic sequences of cards that make one player score higher than the other.

  • Royal Straight Flush: this is the perfect sequence you can have while playing poker. This sequence has 5 tiles all of them from same suit, from ten to ace. That is ten, jack, queen, king and ace.
  • Straight Flush: this is another type of sequence, where all the five cards are from the same suit and are in a sequential order. For example: 6 to 10, or 2 to 6 etc
  • Four of a Kind: after straight flush we have four of a kind. These cards are of same type. For example: four aces, or four 3 etc.
  • Full House: this happens when you have three cards from the same kind and other two are a pair. For example: 999,55 beats 666,AA and 999,KK beats 999,QQ.
  • Flush: this occurs when you have all five cards of same suit. For example: 4d, 6d, 7d, 10d, Qd.
  • Straight: this happens when you have five cards in sequential order but may not be of the same suit. For example: 2d, 3c, 4c, 5h, 6d.
  • Three of a kind:  this happens when three cards are from the same type and other two cards are of other suit. 2h, 2c, 2d, 10c, Ac.
  • Two Pair:  two cards are of the same denomination. The other two cards also form a pair and the remaining one is different. Example: 2d, 2h, 4c, 4h, 6c.
  • One pair: when you have one pair and other cards are totally from different suit and different denomination. Example: 4s, 4c, 7c, Jh, Qs.
  • High card: this is when the person holds higher card wins the game. For example: Ad, 5s, 7c, 3d, 9h will win to Ks, Jc, Td, 4s, 9h.
